The brand has now added its revolutionary twin-cylinder CNG tech to all of its CNG models on sale
Tata Motors has launched the Punch iCNG, with the brand’s twin-cylinder CNG tech. Along with this the brand has also brought the twin-cylinder tech to the Tata Tiago iCNG and the Tata Tigor iCNG. Prices for the Punch iCNG start at INR 7.10 lakh, while the prices for the Tiago iCNG start at Rs 6.55 lakh and the Tigor iCNG is available starting at Rs 7.8 lakh. (prices ex-showroom)
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Vinay Pant, Head-Marketing, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said: “Building further on our success with the Altroz iCNG, and to make the CNG segment even more hotly contested, we are excited to introduce the twin cylinder technology in not just one but three products today – the Tiago, Tigor and the much awaited and loved sub compact SUV, the Tata Punch. Since its debut at the Auto Expo 2023, the Punch iCNG has been one of the most awaited products in this segment. With its uncompromised boot space and high end feature upgrades, the Punch iCNG demonstrates the go anywhere attitude of an SUV, which is engineered to meet the constantly evolving requirements of customers, who are tech savvy and demand best in class features along with an environment friendly and economical product. I am confident that these introductions put together will make our CNG line up appealing, holistic and stronger than ever.”
Punch has been a volume seller for the brand, selling more than 10,000 units each month. With the CNG variant, the sales are only expected to grow. The Tigor and the Tiago are the only vehicles in India, which are available with petrol, electric and CNG powertrains. All three cars use the same 1.2-litre motor, which develops 87.8bhp and 115Nm in petrol mode and 73.5bhp and 103Nm in CNG mode. Only a 5-speed manual gearbox is on offer.
Tata first introduced the twin-cylinder CNG tech at the 2022 Auto Expo in Greater Noida earlier this year. The first car from the brand to come with the tech was the Altroz iCNG, and now the entirety of Tata’s CNG portfolio comes with the twin-cylinder CNG tech. There are two tanks in the boot, each 30 litre in capacity. The Tigor gets larger 35 litre tanks, totalling to 70 litres. The three cars can be started directly in CNG mode, and switching to petrol or vice versa takes the touch of a button.
The brand has also used the opportunity to add features like a voice assisted electric sunroof, auto headlamps, 7-inch infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rain-sensing wipers, iTPMS, and XPresscool to the Punch. The sunroof and the iTPMS are now also available with other variants of the Punch. In terms of features, the Tiago iCNG and the Tigor iCNG do not get anything new.
