Mahindra has outlined its future roadmap which comprise new EVs and farm machines
At its mega event in Cape Town, South Africa, Mahindra has revealed a number of products which outline the future of the brand both here in India and for its international operations. The most major reveal is that of the Thar.e concept, followed by the Global Pik-up concept and the Oja brand of tractors.
Mahindra Vision Thar.e electric SUV concept
The Thar.e is the electric version of the iconic Thar SUV. It is based on the INGLO platform – which was unveiled by the brand last year, that has been altered to accommodate the body of the rugged SUV, this is called the INGLO P1. While exact dimensions have not been finalised as the Thar.e is still in the prototype stage, Mahindra says that the Thar.e will have a wheelbase between 2,775mm to 2,975mm and a ground clearance between 250 to 300mm.
Design wise, the Thar.e is a five-door SUV, unlike the three-door Thar currently on sale in India. It features a very rugged off-road look, inspired by rally going SUVs and also features off-road spec raised suspension. The design is boxy and features a lot of geometric shapes, giving it an unmistakable Thar look. It gets LED headlamps and LED DRLs, as well as vertically slatted design LED lamps.
The wheel track is considerably increased, which protrude outside the bodyshell giving it the proper off-road look. The cabin of the Thar.e features a minimalist and very concept car like design. There is a flat steering, a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment display.
Based on the INGLO P1, the Thar.e is expected to use a similar powertrain to the upcoming Born Electric SUVs from Mahindra. Though Mahindra may source the motors from Volkswagen with which the brand has partnered to develop the INGLO platform. This will mean a dual-motor setup with a combined output upwards of 300bhp and 500Nm of torque, however these numbers are as of now speculation.
Further details of the Thar.e will be available closer to the reveal of the production-spec car.
Mahindra Global Pik-up concept
Mahindra also unveiled the Global Pik-Up concept at the event. This is based on the Scorpio-N SUV. This is aimed at global markets as the name suggests, mainly for countries like Australia and South Africa.
The pik-up visually resembles the Scorpio-N and has been designed at Mahindra India Design Studio. As it is a concept still, there are quite a number of styling details which are unlikely to make it to the production car. The headlamp, bonnet, fenders and the front doors are the same as on the Scorpio-N.
There is a new bummer with a bash-plate, and tow hooks, and a new mesh grille. There is even a snorkel to maximise the vehicle’s water fording ability. In profile, the Pik-Up appears to have a longer wheelbase than the SUV, likely around the 2,900mm mark. The loading bed has space to accommodate two spare tyres, as showcased with the prototype.
Mahindra says that the Global Pik-Up will feature Level-2 ADAS, semi-auto parking and 5G connectivity. There will also be a sunroof. The Pik-Up will use the 2.2-litre diesel engine with all-aluminium block, making 175bhp and available with both manual and automatic transmissions. This will also be mated to the 4Xplor AWD system. Expected to arrive in markets by 2025.
Mahindra Oja tractors
Mahindra – the world’s largest tractor maker today launched the Oja range of tractors.
