Luxury carmaker expands portfolio with electric variant of X1
BMW India has launched the BMW iX1 electric SUV, priced at Rs 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom) in the xDrive30 variant. This introduction marks the availability of the BMW X1 in three powertrains: petrol, diesel, and electric. The BMW iX1 is being imported to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
Visual Resemblance to the X1
The BMW iX1 bears a striking resemblance to its conventional counterpart, the X1, sharing the same body and platform. It boasts sculpted adaptive LED headlamps with crescent-shaped LED DRLs and the signature kidney grille with an ‘i’ insert. Customers can select from paint options including Alpine White non-metallic, Space Silver, Black Sapphire, and Storm Bay metallic. The SUV rides on 18-inch M light alloy wheels, with the option to enhance its sporty appearance with the M Sport trim, featuring sporty bumpers and alloys. The rear design includes L-shaped LED DRLs and a prominent diffuser.
Modern Interior with Premium Features
Inside the cabin, the BMW iX1 showcases a contemporary layout featuring the BMW Curved Display, integrating a 10.7-inch infotainment display and a 10.25-inch instrument display into a single panel. The vehicle comes equipped with M Sport elements, including the steering wheel, M Anthracite headliner, ambient lighting, and other sporty accents. Notable interior features include a Harman Kardon 12-speaker audio system, electrically adjustable front-row seats, massage seats for the front row, dual-zone climate control, panoramic glass roof, and a hands-free tailgate.
Impressive Performance and Range
The BMW iX1 xDrive30 variant employs two electric motors, one on each axle, producing a combined output of 313bhp and 494Nm of torque. This powertrain enables the electric SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 180kmph. The vehicle is powered by a 66.4 kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed WLTP range of 440km. The iX1 offers multiple regen and drive modes to optimise range. Charging options include an 11 kW AC charger for a full charge in 6.3 hours and a 130 kW DC fast charger that can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 29 minutes.

The BMW iX1 comes equipped with advanced technology features, including the BMW xDrive AWD system, automatic differential brakes, dynamic traction control, hill start assist, hill descent control, and Adaptive M Suspension. Safety features include Active Park Distance Control, Rear View Camera, Parking Assistant, Reversing Assistant, Attentiveness Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Cruise Control with Braking Function, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Pedestrian Protection.
Competition and Pricing
Priced at Rs 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the BMW iX1 competes with the likes of the Kia EV6 GT AWD (priced at Rs 65.95 lakh, ex-showroom) and the Volvo XC40 Recharge (priced at Rs 56.90 lakh, ex-showroom). BMW’s entry into the electric SUV segment reaffirms the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility in India.
