Ola Electric unveils four electric motorcycle concepts, Roadster, Cruiser, Adventure and Diamond Head

Ola Electric plans to launch these models by end of next year

Ola Electric has unveiled its future concept range of motorcycles. The company has been at the forefront of electric scooters, and is currently the largest electric scooter maker in India. However, the brand wants to further penetrate the automobile market, and there is no better way to do that than to offer motorcycles in India, which is the world’s largest two-wheeler market. The brand has showcased four concept motorcycles – Cruiser, Adventure, Roadster and the Diamond Head (supersport).

Ola Cruiser

As the name suggests, the Ola Cruiser is a low slung heavy looking machine. Despite its muscular proportions, the motorcycle features quite an aerodynamic shape, with a number of body panels added just to make it slippier while cruising, which in turn will aid the motorcycle’s range and efficiency. There is a sleek LED headlamp and an LED DRL. There is a tank, rather the charging port with a panel shaped like a fuel tank. It is a two seater. There is a wide section rear tyre, with a tyre hugger with slim LED turn indicators as well as the number plate holder. There is a digital instrument cluster. The motorcycle uses the battery housing as a stressed member of the chassis. There is a mid-mounted electric motor which drives the wheel with a chain drive. It uses USD forks up front, and a monoshock at the rear.

Ola Adventure

The Ola Adventure again as the name suggests is an Adventure Tourer, characterised by a beaky front look where the high fairing starts and then drops down sharply. It gets off-road tyres mounted on long travel suspension setups. The wheels measure 19 inch at the front and 17 inch at the rear. As with the other models, there is a unique LED DRL coupled with LED lighting, and a tall flyscreen. The rear too has a high mounted tail section, as well as metal mounting racks for panniers. There is ofcourse the battery in the centre and the hub motor with a chain drive.

Ola Roadster

The Ola Roadster is a sporty street roadster motorcycle. This is the only one of the prototypes which is currently operational and closer to the production spec model. It gets a USD fork and a twin disc setup at the front. The headlamp and the DRLs are LEDs while the turn indicators have been mounted into the tank shroud. There is a digital instrument panel. The seat is long with the front section acting as the cover for the charging port. There is a flush taillamp on the rear. Chunky tyres complete the look of the Roadster. This too features a similar looking battery and motor setup.

Ola Diamond Head

The Ola Diamond Head is named so because of the very sharp nose which is flat at the front with a wide LED strip and a flush flyscreen which is actually part of the bodywork. The motorcycle features full fairing to mark it as a supersports motorcycle, and to aid its aerodynamic efficiency. The most unique part of the motorcycle however is the front wheel which unlike conventional motorcycle doesn’t come with a fork, but rather a swingarm with pistons to let it absorb shocks while the wheel itself is turned by a complex mechanism mounted into the wheel hub. This mechanism is complex, and while it does provide advantages compared to conventional fork and steering, can be a problem to maintain especially in Indian road conditions. There are footpegs which can be moved, from a sporty stance to a comfort stance. It gets chunky tyres, and complete LED lighting.

No performance figures or details regarding the battery/motors have been shared by Ola but these are expected to be premium models, in the price range of Rs 2 lakh – Rs 5 lakh, hence are expected to offer performance comparable to conventional motorcycles in this range. These motorcycles will be launched by the end of next year.
