Toyota’s top-of-the-line luxury MPV has moved to a new generation, with more tech and more luxury than ever before
Toyota has launched the 2024 Vellfire MPV in India. The car is now in its fourth-gen model, and made its global debut in June this year. There is only one powertrain option and two trim options on sale with prices starting at Rs 1.20 crore (ex-showroom).
Commenting on the launch, Masakazu Yoshimura, MD and CEO at TKM said, “Today marks a momentous milestone in our India journey as we introduce the All-New Vellfire, a symbol of Toyota’s class-leading technology, comfort and elegance. We are thrilled to present this masterpiece to the customers which represents the pinnacle of luxury, while embracing a greener future. This further reflects our relentless efforts, by adopting multiple pathways towards realizing ‘Carbon Neutrality’, and in line with the direction of the ‘Government of India’. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of mass electrification and offering sustainable mobility, as we strive to create a better tomorrow for all.”
2024 Toyota Vellfire: platform and design
The new Vellfire is based on the new TNGA-K platform, which it shares with the new Lexus LM. This platform has allowed the car to be even more comfortable and luxurious than before. While in terms of design this isn’t much different and is rather an evolution of the older car. The front is aggressive, but looks mature compared to before. The glasshouse is large, and the sharp lines blend in to give the Vellfire a smooth appearance. The front has a large grille, with the Toyota logo and large LED headlamps and LED signature lights. The rear gets a large and rather loud LED tail lamp component, again – an evolution of the older car’s design.
2024 Toyota Vellfire: Luxury on wheels
The outgoing Vellfire was one of the most comfortable and luxurious vehicles one could purchase at the price point and then some, but this new one is even a step further. The cabin of the 2024 Vellfire has been designed to cocoon the occupant in opulent and technologically driven luxury. This includes the completely adjustable and fully reclining 2nd row seats which come with all sorts of ventilation and massage functions. Note that these ultra-luxury seats are reserved for the Executive Lounge variant and not the Hi variant. The cabin also gets a large roof mounted section which houses the lights and other sensors, as well as a detachable smartphone type of control system.
The driver is welcomed to a digital instrument panel, a large infotainment display and a rather clutterless design compared to the older car. The Vellfire also comes with ADAS features which includes Pre-Collision Safety, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Trace Assist, Adaptive High Beam LED Headlamps and Blind Spot Monitor to reinstate the Toyota Safety Sense.
2024 Toyota Vellfire: engine
The Toyota Vellfire is offered with a single powertrain – a 2.5-litre petrol mated to an electric motor which together produce 193bhp and 240Nm of torque. There is a battery which is more than capable of powering the Vellfire for short distances, essentially rendering the drive noiseless and more comfortable
2024 Toyota Vellfire: price
The new Vellfire is priced at Rs 1.20 crore for the Hi trim and Rs 1.30 crore for the Executive Lounge trim. The car does not have any rivals in India, but may soon face competition from the Lexus LM which is expected to be launched here soon.
